Hero, is a site specific response to the authentic beauty of a New England barn. The steel “legs” bend under the weight of carrying the “hero”, the century-old, hand hewn, chestnut timbers made up of beams and posts of a renovated barn. Perhaps it is a returning to the woods after their honorable tenure of over a century supporting the homestead barn. The mortises are opened up to allow light and the green leaves of the backdrop of surrounding trees to be visible. The design bisects two land forms; the horizon of the nearby range and the slope of the lawn. It is framed within the open doors of the barn. The scale reflects the trees in the background, as if the beams are snagged in the branches after falling.
