Here are some photographs from the show that just opened in Watertown at Room 83 Spring: Idea of North.
The idea of north is simultaneously philosophic and practical. Characterized by C.S. Lewis as an indefinable place of longing, the north is also the compass point referenced for orientation and direction. It is the limitless landscape of the imagination as well as a mapped course of byways and borderlines. With an in tandem nature at once modest and adventurous, fragile and tough; the idea of north is a paradox.
Idea Of North presents sculpture, photography, painting and sound by artists Marja Lianko, Nancy Winship Milliken, Lowry Pei, and Vaughn Sills. Sharing a northern sensibility, each artist's work is rooted to a boreal place of origin, residence, and affection.
